James Rivera, THE voice of US metal, has been involved in many bands and projects over the years. But his true love always was HELSTAR, the band he fronts since more than 30 years, the band that created a very own, unique sound and that enjoys a magnificent reputation in the worldwide metal scene.

After returning from a 11-year break in 2006, the “nucleus” of HELSTAR’s classic line-up reunited and brought back the characteristics of Texas’ finest. An album with re-recorded classics followed and today we look back on two more great studio albums and a Live DVD/CD.

2014 sees Rivera and his band deliver another stunning release, “This Wicked Nest”. It’s a little more melodic compared to its successor “Glory Of Chaos” and reminds of HELSTAR’s 80’s classics, without copying the band’s rich legacy. Songs such as the epic opener “Fall Of Dominion” perfectly combine the band’s characteristic sound with the thrashy approach known from their latest album “Glory Of Chaos”. Rivera states: „With „Glory Of Chaos“ we have exceeded our sound spectrum, but we will not go any further into the extreme, I’m sure. “This Wicked Nest” in a way merges the 80’s HELSTAR sound with what we did on “Glory Of Chaos”. First response from our partners is amazing and we are confident that all HELSTAR fans will like the new material a lot.” So speaks the charismatic frontman, and he didn’t promise too much, “The Wicked Nest” is a real treat for all fans of the band and in general all metalheads who are into first-class, unique and powerful U.S. metal will dig it big time!

HELSTAR were founded in 1982 in Houston, Texas. The band started with high goals, but who could forsee that shortly after HELSTAR should build a legacy and a reputation as one of the most technically skilled and intense U.S. power metal outfits? With a singer like James Rivera (who was later also part of Vicious Rumors, Seven Witches and Destiny´s End) the band found a charismatic frontman with a unique voice. But also the razor-sharp, powerful riffs and guitar licks of Barragan and Trevino, combined with the enormous technical skills that the whole band displayed, became one of the main trademarks of HELSTAR.

After this, the band released albums like “Burning Star”, “Distant Thunder” and “Nosferatu” - all considered as classics of their genre today. HELSTAR toured with W.A.S.P., Megadeth, Keel, Savatage, Fates Warning and Yngwie Malmsteen. After a 5-years break the band returned in 1995 with a new album, entitled “Multiples In Black”, that was produced by Megadeth´s Dave Ellefson. In 2000 Metal Blade Records released a live bootleg called “T´was the Night of a Helish Xmas”. James assembled a reunion lineup with Jerry and Russell and some guest musicians to perform at the Bang Your Head festival (2001) in Europe. Following this, the band embarks on a US tour beginning with the Milwaukee Metal fest and ending at the Powermad festival, held in Baltimore, MD. In 2004 James headlines the Keep It True festival in Germany as HELSTAR. Selected appearances in Greece, Italy, Denmark and the Netherlands follow.

Then, in 2006 James, Larry, Jerry, and Rob reform with Russell to bring the nucleus of this classic line-up back together. “Sins Of The Past” was released in 2007. The re-recorded “best of” album included 2 brand new songs already. 2008 saw the release of HELSTAR's first studio album in 13 years: "The King Of Hell", accompanied by overwhelming reactions from press and fans alike. In 2010 then HELSTAR followed up with "Glory Of Chaos", which is probably their heaviest album ever, two years later. In 2012 it was time to celebrate the band's 30th anniversary! And what better could you do than celebrate with a big concert in your hometown? The concert was filmed and released as DVD/2-CD package "30 Years Of Hel".

But no rest for the wicked, so HELSTAR kept busy and toured Europe & the U.S.. Energized from the writing, recording, and mixing process, the band is ready to destroy all that comes within its path. HELSTAR is set to release This Wicked Nest, worldwide to the masses on April 25, 2014. An album that promises to return the band to its roots of power metal while combining the thrash elements of “Glory Of Chaos”, “This Wicked Nest” will certainly prove to the world that there is much more left in these Texas metal legends!
